Ministers to dish out £2bn of ‘cash’ left by British

Ministers are preparing to hand up to £2 billion of “forgotten” cash left by Brits in savings, investments and shares over the past 20 years to charity.

Civil Society Minister Rob Wilson yesterday said the Government believed there was a small fortune lying dormant with insurers and pension giants.

Mr Wilson said: “This money could change millions of lives across the country by helping good causes rather than gathering dust in dormant accounts.”

An independent commission was charged two years ago with looking at whether a scheme applying to “dormant” bank and building society accounts could be extended to other financial services.
